UNESCO House - Conference Room IX

Organised by UNESCO’s Science Sector and the Bureau of Strategic Planning, this Forum addressed to what extent:

• sustainable development and the sciences are defined and can be influenced by the role of culture and the arts, both from an advocacy point of view and the perspective of concrete impact through interdisciplinary engagement leading to the emergence of green societies;

• diverse national, regional and international experiences and knowledge can be shared in a globalizing world among different countries, stakeholders, communities and individuals, also in the spirit of the rapprochement of cultures and the promotion of cultural diversity;

• the research agenda of social sciences and humanities is affected by the increasing centrality of cultures and the role of cultural diversity as well as the relation to soft power actors, like scientific communities, the media and culture personalities.
